My name is Bryan Zug and I do product development (my twitter stream | formal resume).

Currently I’m Product Manager at pinch/zoom where I craft mobile apps and experiences for the likes of BBC and a host of other companies. Of late, I’ve been working on a lot of iPad apps that re-imagine everything from magazine publishing to the future of on demand video.

Here’s a preview video I created on the American Review iPad magazine app I worked on in Spring 2011. That’s Brian Fling, founder of pinch/zoom, giving the summary of what we made:

I’m also a strategic advisor to a company my beautiful bride Jen runs called Lilipip. They create animated videos about products, services, and concepts for companies navigating what some have called the "Attention Crash". Here’s a bit I wrote about why these sorts of videos are so effective, and here’s a video I wrote/produced for Adobe’s eLearning Suite in 2010 that’s a nice showcase on that front:

Since 2006, I’ve worked as the video producer for O’Reilly’s Ignite Seattle gatherings (as seen on Lifehacker and BoingBoing) — an event that we started here in Seattle and has now gone worldwide.

I’ve been working with design firms in Seattle (like Phinney Bischoff Design House and Methodologie) for years and have done interactive business development / technical direction / web strategy for a slew of interesting projects ranging from The Coca-Cola Company to Boeing to The Gap, Inc. (The Gap + Old Navy + Banana Republic, etc).

Previous to the Seattle design scene, I was an eLearning systems technical developer working for places like Children’s Hospital at Stanford and Children’s Hospital Seattle.

In my time with those healthcare organizations, I worked on multimedia web application development, technical project management, eLearning strategies and healthcare IS communication coaching.

I’ve worked as a web and multimedia developer since 1996 — Past projects have included web based training, e-commerce, content management systems, user interface design and multimedia development for clients like Children’s Hospital Stanford, O’Reilly Publishing, Children’s Hospital Seattle, Bermuda Fire & Marine Insurance, Volkswagen / Audi of Latin America, Premera Blue Cross, and Perkins Coie law firm, among others. I’ve also performed quality assurance systems analysis for Real Networks and associated client partners such as CNN, ABCnews, CBS, FoxSports, Major League Baseball, NASCAR, and E!

Some of the articles and presentations I’ve published include Sys-Con’s MX Developer’s Journal, the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), the Cerner Health Conference, and Seattle Mind Camp.

I’ve also been known to teach an introduction to Macromedia Captivate classes which I developed for content experts at Children’s Seattle. As for other training experience, I’ve instructed college and high school classes that include electronic media design, advertising, public speaking, and sex education. My BA is in sociology from Pepperdine University in Southern California.

I live near Seattle in Renton, Washington with my beautiful wife Jen, my daughter Ruthie, my son Thomas, our dog Lucy, and anyone who may be renting a room and eating meals with us at the moment (which was Gayle, then Aaron + Kayla + Maddie, then Greg the Leer jet pilot, then James the Amazon fraud preventer, then Pasha the airline mechanic turned medical school student, then Libby the Super Nanny, then Fancy the Admininator and is now Jeremy the hotelier).

When not doing geek stuff, my family and I are a part of an artful and thoughtful Christian community in Downtown Seattle — a gathering of misfits learning what it means to live as ones who have been loved much.
